Rotarian Spotlight – Leslie Schobernd

This month’s Rotarian Spotlight is Leslie Schobernd, a senior mortgage loan originator with 1st MidAmerica Credit Union. A 20-year member of the 1st MidAmerica team, Leslie has been with the mortgage department since May 2009.

Leslie is a born and raised Texan, graduating from Eisenhower High School in Houston. She attended John A. Logan Jr College in Carterville, IL, where she studied accounting. She married her husband, Mike, in 2002 and together, they have five adult children and four grandkids (three girls and one boy!). Their adorable Aussiedoodle, Jordi, is currently the favorite fur-baby in the house!

Her hobbies include Diamond Art (Google it – it’s similar to cross stitch and paint-by-numbers!) and traveling. Leslie and Mike, along with her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, recently vacationed in Montana and Yellowstone National Park. “I have never been to such a beautiful place. The weather during the day was in the mid 70’s with no humidity! I could have stayed there forever, just enjoying the scenery, weather and wildlife,” she says.

As an active member of Riverbend Rotary since October 2022, Leslie appreciates the way members come together to support community projects and organizations. “I have enjoyed getting to know my fellow Rotarians and know I have made lifelong friendships.”

She also supports United Way, as well as CU in the Community – where employees of 1st MidAmerica can support various not-for-profit organizations through the credit union. As a cancer survivor, she is most proud to donate and participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
